About Sliver and Bite
More than just a recipe blogger
Ah, the moment where I serve the tea, dish the dirt, and blow my own trumpet. It is amusing how, in the naiveté of youth and the absence of extensive experience, one feels a twinge of unease about boasting of their achievements.
In my 42 years, I have experienced so much that it would be a disservice not to share the wisdom accumulated along the way. You can listen to "Chris's Life in 28 minutes" on the Sliver and Bite TV podcast. I have conveniently inserted a podcast player below for your convenience. This episode encapsulates my journey from rural living to my career in hospitality, and the invaluable lessons I have learned in hospitality customer service and the culinary arts.
My departure from the hospitality industry in 2022 is what really led me to cooking. Although I have always enjoyed cooking, it was my trials with toxic management that necessitated finding a diversion. That diversion turned out to be baking. I found solace in the delicate art of crafting the perfect cupcake, a task that kept me occupied and prevented me from wallowing or anxiously awaiting HR's often delayed responses.
The only snag I encountered was having to rewatch baking videos over 20 times because the entire recipe was compressed into a mere 30-second clip. About a year into perfecting my baking skills, I was inspired to create a real-time cooking channel. A place where viewers could take their time with each step—cracking the eggs alongside me, without the rushed transitions to putting the dish in the oven. You can visit my real-time cooking channel on YouTube, or explore one of the recipes which come in various tutorial lengths: Bite Size, Just a Sliver, or Real Time.
In today's world, with access to social media and an abundance of recipes available, it was paramount that I cater to what the cooks truly need and want. Thus, I have endeavoured to provide a platform that fulfills these desires, offering a range of cooking experiences tailored to different preferences and schedules.
The Vision for Sliver and Bite
Building a Culinary Community
The next phase of Sliver and Bite is to continue expanding my recipe catalogue and create a dedicated section on the site for essential pantry items. This will be an invaluable resource for our community, offering guidance on must-have ingredients to enhance culinary creations whilst saving money using many of the same ingredients for different dishes.
Moreover, I am committed to completing season one of my podcast, which chronicles my entrepreneurial experiences and observations. Season two will feature insightful interviews with small business owners, sharing their journeys and the challenges they have overcome. This podcast aims to inspire and educate budding entrepreneurs, providing them with practical advice and motivation.
Another exciting aspect of my vision is to establish a membership portal. This space will allow me to conduct recipe trials, where members can offer feedback and their thoughts on developing recipes with Sliver and Bite. By collaborating with our community, we can perfect each recipe, ensuring they meet the highest standards of taste, quality and passion.
Of course, achieving these ambitions requires both time and financial support. If you feel inspired to contribute to the Sliver and Bite cause, please visit my Go Fund Me page. Any amount, large or small, will make a significant impact and help bring this vision our vision to life.
Together, we can build a vibrant and innovative culinary community, where creativity and collaboration thrive.
See you soon.
